Tax Time!

So as a poor person, tax time is pretty much the only time we ever have any extra spending or saving money.
We were thinking of buying a house, but since the market sucks right now, there’s nothing we can afford that’s livable.
So, spending money it is!

A friend and I have decided to take a trip to China in June. I’ve already talked it over with my mother for babysitting, and since the money came in as a nice Valentine’s Day present, I just bought a (nice) camera to Vlog, Blog, and take pictures of the trip (but probably more-so to take awesome pictures and video of my kids, because 1000 pictures in like 2 months is never enough 😉 ) so my family – husband, mom and the kids – can “go to China” with me, since obviously we don’t have (and probably never will have) enough for all of us to go, and I’ve been studying Chinese and about China for the past 3 years. I’ve never been anywhere, so it’s kind of a big important deal for me, I feel like if I don’t take the chance now, I never will.

Plus a vacation from life would really be nice!

Update on homeschooling:
S is doing really well with his school studies, and I recently did an assessment and he’s at the equivalent of almost knowing enough to have already “graduated” from Kindergarten! I really need to work on giving him more credit than I do. When it comes to schooling, I pretty much verge on the line of Tiger Mom (Google it for reference). I really have an amazingly smart kid.

Christmas: TGIO

Thank God It’s Over!

Everything went pretty well, except Christmas Eve, as expected. Instead of having it at our house, my excuse for the house being tiny worked out and got us out of hosting the thing. Instead, I got tricked into being in the same place as my sister-in-law. Kept my kids away from her and made $170 out of the whole ordeal, not too bad for 1 hour of work.

Christmas was pretty good. S had a ton of fun and got everything he wanted and more. Train, toothbrushes, pajamas, clothes, cars, trucks, lotion, body spray, a Ninja Turtle, animal crackers… I think that about covers it. We went out to breakfast and dinner with Grandpa and Grandma. Z got a bunch of noisy things and things to chew on. And our dog got toys too, because Christmas is when we celebrate her birthday and she’s 9 years old now.

I’m glad the holidays are over, now I get to look forward to paying off all the credit cards I maxed out and the lack of money we’ll have left from the tax refund after they’re all paid off.

Christmas Eve…. DEATH!

This year I’m being forced to hosting my mother-in-law (MIL) and brother-in-law’s (BIL) family. Which wouldn’t be too bad if mother-in-law and sister-in-law’s (SIL) knocked-up daughter weren’t by default invited. I hate my husband’s family. The only sane ones in the bad bunch (immediate – from his mother’s side) are BIL and his daughters. Unfortunately, when MIL left father-in-law (FIL), she moved in with BIL and he hasn’t been able to get rid of her since.

Now I’m not one of those high-morality “don’t get pregnant until marriage” kind of people. But her mother is such a slut that both kids don’t know who their real fathers are, and her mom apparently slept with both the guy they were brought up believing was their father, and his son! Who is supposedly the daughter’s possible father. SIL is a straight up SLUT and I don’t like anyone from her own family. Nobody was raided right out of any of them, but can you be surprised, really?

So They normally do Christmas Eve crap (Like opening presents early, WTF?) at BIL and MIL’s house. But they had a fire and the house is black and smells like smoke.. So apparently that volunteers my house for them to ransack on Christmas Eve. I normally like to have a nice quiet peaceful Christmas as far away as humanly possible from these people. When it comes time for the Holiday season, I try to go to my parents’ houses.

It’s just once, A. You can live through one night of hell with these psychos….

If SIL shows up, nobody is invited at all and they can all go suck it.
And no, not just because she’s a whore. She had the audacity when my son was born to grab a 2 day old baby out of my arms, pass him around the room, and tell him that he wasn’t my baby, but “theirs”. Which I won’t get into the details now, but the bitch isn’t even allowed to know where we live.

Operation Christmas – Lights!!

I got a few decorations up, lights in the front window, garland/wreath lights inside, lights on the balcony facing the street…

It’s not a lot, but it is a start to getting the house ready for the holidays. Now I need to make a decision about getting rid of our older sofa in order to make space in the living room for the tree in front of the window. It’s kind of a hard thing to decide because it was the first couch we bought together, it’s a vintage custom 70’s sofa that the previous owner sent off for from the east coast, and I really like it, it’s comfortable! Our newer couch is the same type of velour-ish stuff, and probably made in about the same year, but it’s harder than our original sofa and I guess I just can’t compare it to our original because it doesn’t have the same history. I’m attached to the old one. Heh… Material things you put emotion in right? My son peed on that couch during potty training! (Of course it’s been washed, which is why two of the cushion-covers shrunk, ha!)

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

it’s not perfect, but it’s kind of pretty 😉

Operation Christmas – Underway!

Welcome to the first day of December 2013. Today is the first day I start the decorating process for Christmas, and if you’re lucky I’ll make a batch of cookies. I make bomb chocolate chip cookies with dark chocolate chips and coconut oil.

We really don’t do a lot for Christmas.  A “Big Christmas” for me is just being able to be with my family. It’s not really about presents, it’s about the season and spending quality time with loved ones. So my kids don’t get a lot of gifts in comparison with other people’s extravagant affairs and entire toy-boxes worth of toys each year.

I decorate, make sure we always have a REAL tree, make cookies, and buy a few presents.
My child might act spoiled, but in reality we rarely buy him anything materialistic, and his room full of toys is from the 5 years his life has spanned over. (This is S’ 5th Christmas) which is still off-limits to him right now from the crap he tried pulling all last month with his crappy attitude.

Christmas for our family, is BASED ON THE FAMILY. The best part of Christmas for me is having both of my parents at the same time, cooking the family dinner, and spending a day or two all together. We got S maybe 8 things, 4-6 toys and 2 movies, and Z we got 5 toys, 3 of which are basically stocking stuffers, like a teether rattle.

Z’s second tooth came in last week, and then we got over our 2 days stomach bug/food poisoning from my mother-in-law’s mashed potatoes, which SUCKED. Never eat that woman’s food, not even to be polite. Eugh.

Now I just need to decorate the house, in a couple of weeks we’ll go get a tree… and ALL SET FOR CHRISTMAS!

Oh, and I got a cute idea for a school project from the decorations at 7-11 that we can make from construction paper. Keep checking back!

Crazy Crazy Lady

These kids are driving me up a wall!

I’ve said it before, nothing makes me realise how wonderful my son is until I have to take care or interact with other peoples’ children. My son is a saint! HAHAHA.

But in all seriousness.

I’m so beyond sick of my friend’s kids it’s impossible to even fathom how much restraint I have put upon myself in order to not throw things against the wall or hurt something. That might sound harsh to some people… especially the “all children are god’s gifts” sort of people… However, I’m not one of those people.. I’m also not one of the “all babies are cute” people, come on, seriously, some babies just looks like aliens, oompa loompas, goblins, and various kinds of ugly animals. That’s besides the point right now though. These little girls… mainly the older one – STRAIGHT OUT OF HELL. I basically hide in various parts of my house so I don’t have to deal with them. On Friday and Saturday I got 3 months’ worth of laundry (mainly blankets and towels) done because I was hiding in the laundry room!!! Well, needless to say, my husband is ecstatic! (haha) 😉

I won’t be watching them much longer, especially not for the amount that I imagine my friend will be paying me, which supposedly she doesn’t get paid until the 5th of December.
Seriously? Do people actually go that long in between checks?
I’ve never heard of it. I have a slight inkling that I won’t really be getting anything out of this babysitting gig and that it’s all for naught.

The thing I DO like about babysitting, is that it’s made homeschooling a lot more fun, during the morning, from about 10-1 I do school with my son and the middle girl, A. They’re both 4 (I think S is about 6 months older), so I just make doubles of all the worksheets we work on for the day and we try to get one project done per day. The kids kind of compete, so I think it makes school more fun for both of them since little kids are sociopaths and like to show off how awesome they are.

But the older one? Yeah, I’m going to have to get up the guts sometime to tell her mom, “I can watch the younger two, no problem,” but she’s going to have to figure out something for the BRAT. I’m so FREAKING TIRED OF HER BS!

The More The Merrier?

As you know I’m babysitting my friend’s girls now, and I’ve discovered that babies are like a minefield! If one goes off there’s a chain reaction and every one blows up! Other than that, today went off without a hitch. A wasn’t crazy about her mom going to work, but she picked a movie to watch and her and S watched that for about 20 minutes before they decided to go play outside. Then they colored, and S was starting to drive me nuts so I decided he needed to do schoolwork.

Well, it wouldn’t be fair if only he had something to do, so I made copies of his worksheets and gave her some work to do as well. She’s about 6 months younger than S and a middle child, so she doesn’t really get as much attention as her evil older sister, or the new baby. This also means she doesn’t know as much so I’m actually doing a lot more teaching than just reviewing like I do a lot of the time with S. I think she really likes coming over because she gets a lot of one on one attention with me. (She’s such a sweetheart honestly!) We counted, named and colored shapes, learned to write “a” and “1”, and did a drawing maze. Later on we made leaf leis, I think I got the idea for it from here and decided to use paper leaves instead of apples. Anyways, the kids had a blast and A loved having something to show her mommy when she it was time to go home. I’ll try to update with pictures of S’ autumn leaf lei tomorrow if I remember.

Tomorrow I have the two younger girls again, then on Friday I have the younger two until 2p then the older (evil) one when she gets off of school, around 2 – until 7p. It’s going to be a LONG day, almost 12 hours!! Especially with the 5 year old, I honestly can’t stand that girl, she’s so bossy, condescending, smart-a$$ little… she’s a kindergarten bitch to be truthful about it. Luckily, I think hubby has Saturday off this week (he get’s one day off, every other week), so hopefully we’ll still be able to go shopping or something after the girls leave.
